
Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, MD, Ph.D. (Ay.), D.Sc., Director (Institute), at Central Ayurveda Research Institute, Patiala, (CCRAS) Ministry of Ayush. Govt. of India has a work experience of 24 years at various positions including Research Officer (Ay), Assistant Director (Ay) and served at RARI
Jammu, CARI, Punjabi Bagh, RARI Ranikhet, CARI Jhansi and NARIP Cheruthurthy since 2002. He has served at National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), New Delhi and implemented schemes of NMPB viz. Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Mission on Medicinal Plants and National Ayush Mission at National level.
His roles and responsibilities included administration, to carry out and coordinate research projects, provide health services through OPD and IPD, NABH Coordinator to look after all Court cases, reply to the all RTI’s and to look after the medicinal plants Garden.
He has completed his MD (Dravyaguna) from Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot,
Punjab and Ph.D. (Ay) from Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishna Rajasthan Ayurved University, Jodhpur,
Rajasthan. He has also been awarded the Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) by Desh Bhagat University, Punjab. He has also developed various proficiencies like Certificate course in Yoga from Punjabi University, Patiala, three months Re-orientation course in Panchkarma at Central Research Institute (Ayurveda), Cheruthuruthy (Kerala) and Certificate course in spoken Sanskrit from (Pbi. University), Patiala. Various certificates such as “Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research” and “Principles of Clinical Pharmacology” conducted by National Institute of Health (NIH) and Department of Health and Human Services, USA Certificate course on Health
Research Fundamentals and many more are in his credentials.
He was deputed by Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India to finalize the draft for WHO guideline for
selected marker substances of herbal origin for quality control of herbal medicines during Second
WHO consultation on quality control of herbal medicines held in Hong Kong SAR, China. He was
also deputed by Ministry of AYUSH. Govt of India to participate 3 meeting of International Network of Development and Research in Ayurveda in Italy. He is recipient of two patents for designing a device to Identify Anxiety Disorder on 06.10.2023 and designing Digital and Portable Hot Plate Analgesiometer dated 30.01.2024 as Co-inventor
He is the Chairman, Institutional Ethics Committee, Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab, Chairman
of Institutional Ethical Committee, Shobhit University Saharanpur UP Chairman Institutional Ethics Committee, Govt. Ayurvedic College, Patiala. He was Member Secretary, Institutional Ethical Committee (IEC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (BSC) of Central Ayurveda Research institute, Patiala as well. He has been Chairman of Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC), NARIP Cheruthuruthy.
He has participated in various training programs such as training on Ethics Guidelines for Biomedical & Health Research Involving Human Participants, International course on “Public Health Approaches to Non-communicable Diseases, Training Program on Implementation of NABH, Training Program on Research Integrity & Publication Ethics and many more and organized 28 Seminars/Webinars/Workshops/Trainings on various topics.
He has been actively involved in IMR/EMR Research projects as Principal Investigator/Co- Investigator and completed 15 projects out of which 02 projects were funded by NMPB, Ministry of AYUSH. He has developed Mini Forest of medicinal plants by using Miyawaki method of plantation at RARI, Ranikhet.
He has published more than 90 research papers in international and national repute journals, 22 in
proceedings, 11 books as editors & co-editors, 24 chapters in reputed books. He is contributor in two books published by ministry of AYUSH and contributors of 12 Monographs.
He has made 12 paper presentations at international and national platforms including at Johns Hopkins University, USA organized by George Washington University, Washington DC and at Faculty of Medicine & the Institute of Indigenous Medicine University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has made 27 presentations / delivered lectures at national/international platforms on various topics of Ayurveda, attended 112 international/national/regional seminars/workshops and participated in more than 38 National Arogya fair/Free Medical Health Camps.
He has been awarded with prestigious awards such as “Young Scientist Award during International
Seminar on Medicinal Plants and Herbal Products at Sri Venkateswara University, “Award for Popularisation of Science” by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Govt. of Punjab, EISRA Research Excellence award by European Institute of Scientific Research in Ayurveda. Netherlands, Life Fellowship Award F.I.C.A. by Credentials board of the International Council of Ayurveda, India and recipient of Best Paper Award and many more.
He has supervised 01 Ph.D. (Pharmacy) student and 01 Ph.D. (Ay) is under supervision. He was Coordinator for NABH accreditation of CARI, Patiala, nodal officer for various national level programs and possesses Lifetime membership of World NCH Federation. He has been Principal Member from NMPB in Ayurveda Section Committee, Food and Agriculture Department (FAD) of BIS.
